PG-13 for arid conditions, graphic spawning, the geopolitics of bagels and lox
Release Date: March 9, 2012
I’m coming out in favor of this movie, and I’ll tell you why. [EDIT: Saw it… and I take it back.]
First: Good pedigree. Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt, the director of Chocolat, the screenwriter of Slumdog Millionaire.
Second: The title buries the needle on my metaphor-radar, but I can’t come up with a quippy summary of what the salmon fishing stands for. So that’s Feel-Good Indie Film 1, Cynical Blogger 0.
Third: I take that awkward middle part of the trailer – where they explain why the hell they’re trying to add salmon to the Yemeni desert – as a good sign. Because good trailers don’t always make good movies, and vice versa.
